Recipes for Love and Murder by Sally Andrew

Looking for a new mystery series to read and/or watch? I highly recommend Sally Andrew’s Recipes for Love and Murder!Having a subscription to Acorn, I luckily stumbled onto this new Acorn original series! It is a quirky, amusing, interesting and twisting murder mystery set in South Africa, a nice change of pace from my usual Australian and British mystery settings. My curiosity got the better of me when I learned the series was based on a book so I had to get it (which I did) and read it. I’m so glad that I did!

Respectful Afrikaans address a woman older than them as “Tannie” (auntie). Tannie Maria is a middle-aged widow who LOVES to cook-and eat. She shares her culinary fondness as a food columnist for the Gazette, the local paper, until her editor decides its readers are hungrier for advice on matters of the heart rather than recipes. But, Tannie Maria doesn’t like the change and soon realizes she has a knack for helping people! Of course, a recipe is always part of the remedy she offers. Soon, Tannie Maria finds herself perfecting more than her chocolate cake recipe when one of her consultants has been murdered!

If you have Acorn, definitely watch it, but if you don’t then do the next best thing and read the book! Since it will be another year before season 2 is released, I am about to dive into Tannie Maria and the Satanic Mechanic which is the second books in the series. Our copy is currently on the New Mystery book display.
